Dichloromethane, an organic compound with the chemical formula CH2Cl2, is a colorless transparent liquid with an irritating smell similar to ether. It is slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol and diethyl ether, and is a non combustible low boiling solvent under normal use conditions. When its vapor becomes high concentration in high-temperature air, it will generate a weak burning mixed gas , which is often used to replace flammable petroleum ether and diethyl ether.
